| Step
One - Blower Door Test |
| The first step in our process is to identify the location and extent of the draft points in your home. We do this by attaching a blower device to your door that will depressurize the interior of your house. This test will indicate how much total draft loss you have in your house and then we use other testing methods to find the exact points of draft. We typically find draft points in the attic, basement or crawl space and around electrical outlets, lighting, plumbing and heat ducts, as well as doors and windows. | |||
| Step Two - Seal Leak Areas | |||
| A home that is not sealed for air infiltration will be uncomfortable due to drafts and will use about 30% more energy than a relatively airtight home. Once we have identified leak points, we use specialized products and methods to seal those leaks. We use a single component polyurethane foam to seal smaller holes, such as around a drain pipe. We use two-component polyurethane foam for larger holes such as where pipes run thru floors. Weather stripping, caulking and other foam products are used for other sealing needs. |
Step Three - Re-Insulate |
If your home is poorly insulated, it dramatically increases the amount of energy you need for heating and cooling. Once all draft points have been sealed to prevent further air infiltration, we add insulation to increase the energy efficiency of the overall building envelope. The two processes work together to create the comfortable home environment that you desire. |

The final step in our process is the blower door re-test. This will show exactly how successful we were in sealing the draft points in your home. It also allows us to determine if further testing and sealing are necessary to optimize the benefits of the process for you. |
